A quality Wireless keyboard and mouse June 1, 2010 Mike (USA) This works well up to a distance of 7-10 feet. The mouse works on bare wood, plastic and just fine on the mousepad. Now the wires don't get messed up. A very comfortable product to use.
Looks cool in the ad , does not look so cool in hand May 16, 2010 Pancky (Boston, MA) Based on the picture in Amazon i expected it to be similar to this, but unfortunately the build quality is not as expected and the finish is of chrome which is not shown in the pic or described anywhere which looks really cheap. Never the less it works well but HP slapping it name on this doesnt make it a quality product...
Watchout on older HP's & Slow Keyboard May 12, 2010 C. James 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The keyboard was easy enough to initially install, pull the batt tabs, plug in the USB reciever, and you are good to go, unless you want the multimedia features, which I did. The next step was installing HP's "Comfort Desk" CD and this is where it went downhill in a hurry.
After installing per the HP instructions, I rebooted, my desktop returned with the icons all reshuffled (easy enough to fix but annoying), then I opened Notepad to give it a little test, and noticed that if I type an uppercase character by preseeing "Shift, the letter, release both, and press anything else", like space I get a double letter, like Shift "I", space, gets you "Ii", same for any letter "Tt" Mm", etc.
I also noticed that my task bar was using large ICONs and MS Narrator was starting on-boot. I killed Narrator, but could find no fix for the bottom try or double letters so I called HP. HP said that since my HP PC was not in warranty, it did not matter that the keyboard and disc were, they refused to help unless I offered to pay! I asked how can this be, my PC was fine before I loaded an HP Disc, into an HP computer, for an HP Keyboard, they said, sorry not covered since your PC is out of warranty???
I then used the HP supplied uninstall and removed the Comfort Desk, alas it left the drivers the same and some junk in the registry. as well as HP HID devices in the USB, Mouse, and Keyboard parts of the device manager. I fixed and/or removed all of that and the double character issue went away, seems like it may be a slow driver. However the taskbar was still messed up.
At that point I threw in the towel, pulled out my image back-up for my C: & D: Drives, restored them to before I installed the HP Comfort Desk and the Task bar was right and all of the new junk was of course gone. For grins I tried one more time, same result, same fix. (Don't count on a restore point, HP's Comfort Desk does something that will not allow you to use any restore points prior to installing Conform Desk...
Since I did an image restore and HP was not willing to help, I have no idea what it hammered, but it sure nailed something.
System:
HP a362n 3GHz / XP Home Edition SP3 / USB Keyboard/ All drivers and MS patches up to date.
HP Service: It turns out it is very hard to get HP support unless the PC is on an in warranty HP PC, even if the problem device is an HP and brand new, so take care and make a back-up first.
I switched to a Logitech keyboard and no issues, hooked right up, drivers for multimedia buttons loaded no issue, and the keyboard works perfectly.
Buy something else May 3, 2010 Mike Borg (Australia) I've been using this for a week and I'm not satisfied.
The product initially looked quite good. However, usage changed my opinion quite drastically:
Keyboard:
- Very short range: it was unusable with the receiver at 2 feet away from the keyboard. I'm currently using it at 3/4 feet and the response is much better
- Occasionally misses key presses
- No indicator lights for caps lock/num lock/scroll lock
- Laggy: If I haven't been using it recently, it will not even detect the first few keys I've pressed (e.g. I come back to the computer after an hour or so, and try to log in with my 6 character windows password, none of which gets detected. I have to wait a few more seconds before trying again.)
- mushy key presses
- non-standard layout for home/end/insert/delete/pgup/pgdown keys. This is a big pain if you are used to the standard layout and you use the home and end keys quite a bit.
- curved keyboard layout reduces my accuracy
- no extra space between groups of function keys (i.e. between F4/F5 and F8/F9) which makes them harder to identify
- occasionally transposes character pairs that I can type quickly.
Mouse:
- Laggy: as with keyboard, takes a few mouse movements to be ready
- Imprecise: I used a straight edge and dragged the mouse down against it, the mouse cursor wiggles left and right as it goes down instead of staying straight.
- If you want to use the additional side buttons, you need large hands as they are placed too far forward. They are also meant to be pressed only by the index finger.
I have a no-name wireless keyboard with better range and responsiveness (which I use on the living room PC) so it is inexcusable for a big name brand to be so crappy.
I hardly post reviews here but this product just irked me enough to do so.
no more messy cords April 7, 2010 Zara Aurelio (Oakland, CA) bought this to eliminate the messy cords from the mouse and the keyboard. does the job and the shortcut keys are extremely helpful for vista users. keys are comfortable to type in and registers fairly well. the wrist mat makes typing easy and perfect for those with carpal tunnel syndrome. mouse has a built in forward/back button on the side which makes internet browsing effortless. pair it with an ergo mouse pad and you've got a perfect office set up.
