The Iomega Prestige uses a USB 2.0 interface for fast data transfers with universal compatibility. The USB 2.0 interface allows for plug-and-play simplicity with a data transfer rate of up to 480 Mbps. Additionally, the drive is already preformatted NTFS, so you don't have to waste time formatting to use it. The Prestige features a drive with 7200 RPM spindle speed and an 8MB or higher cache buffer. This provides performance that results in fast access speeds and low latency.  Warning: DON'T BUY! It Fails! September 3, 2010

This is my first ever product review on Amazon...and with GOOD reason. This thing failed on me after a year and a month. Of course the warranty only covers a year...when I tried to call support...it's $25 per incident. Seriously? I have to pay EVEN MORE money to get SUPPORT on YOUR own product? I emailed them and they basically told me I'd have to pay for data recovery and buy a new drive if I wanted to get my files off. THIS IS HOW THEY MAKE MONEY. By making hard drives that are setup to fail after a year and then forcing you to turn around, pay for data recovery, and a new hard drive. DO NOT FALL FOR IT. Horrible customer service. HORRIBLE Product. Would not even recommend to my enemies. TRUST IT.

When I purchased this item in December 2008, it apparently only came with a 1 year warranty instead of the 3 years now offered. In August 2010 (less than 2 years old), it crashed and is now a worthless paperweight. Set up was easy, and it worked fine - for a while. Buyer beware.

Bought this for my wife's Toshiba laptop as a back-up device. The unit is quiet and its' silver color in the
vertical stand allows it to take up less space as well as look nice. The unit comes with two EMC(Dantz) Retrospect software
back-up programs plus one from Iomega. You have to go to the website and register to get them. The online site
allows you to download them but fails to differentiate between them(i.e.-strengths and weaknesses of each).
This makes it confusing not knowing if you have to do a recovery if all your data, OS and apps will be there.
Otherwise a nice unit at a affordable price.

I already own a 1TB Iomega external hard drive. NO issues to install in my PC and backing up info is as easy as drag and drop. The most difficult issue I've faced has been PC-related (a USB port). It's reliable, relatively portable, 1TB it's enough for those of us just backing up the whole music and documents we consider important. Just duplicate the good experience for 2 TB!
