Cheap and functional July 28, 2010 C. Swingler They're a bit tinny, but for the cost they're more than adequate.
Extra bonus is that there is no wall wart - it's just a standard AC plug!
If you plan to spend this much... July 27, 2010 Erik Kispert (Valparaiso, Indiana, USA) ...you might as well spend a little more and get something that actually sounds good. Perhaps buy an inexpensive set by Altec Lansing for some loose change more--which is what I should have done! I bought these to use in my office, where my computer is a laptop. The laptop's built-in speakers sound better. One would imagine that with inexpensive speakers of this size, the sound would come out sounding tinny and weak. Unfortunately, this is not the case; I would be HAPPY with tinny-sounding speakers, because then I would hear treble! There is nothing above the mid-frequency range to be heard from this set. The sound they emit falls short of my (low) expectations.
The design of this set is actually not bad; they look nice sitting on a desk, and they feel solid enough. Where they fail miserably is in the speakers within the cabinets. Not only is the sound very flat, but the speakers vibrate within the cabinets when playing audio on my PC above half volume (with both the speakers and the computer's volume controls set at halfway.)
I was looking for something cheap and ACCEPTABLE for the office, so I didn't need 2.1, 5.1, or 7.1 channel sound, but this set doesn't even clear the "decent" bar. Avoid these unless you have water permanently in your ears, because that's what these sound like!
Very good for $10.00 speakers July 27, 2010 Scott Robbins (New York, NY) As others have said, they are a bit tinny, however, for my relatively simple needs, they're fine. I got them to replace an old pair of speakers for my desktop. They're even adequate for music for non-serious listeners, but the bass, as has been said, almost disappears.
I also wanted something relatively small, due to limited desktop space, and these certainly are---the other speakers certainly weren't huge, but these really do give me some extra space.
Lastly, as has also been said, the instructions talk about two cables, a green and a pink, which is usually for input with a microphone. However, there's only the green cable, which is fine. Plug it into the input jack, plug the normal size power cord into an outlet, and you're good to go. (The fact that it's a standard 2 prong plug, rather than a large brick like my old speakers, was a further bonus.)
4 rather than 5 because of the tinniness, but for low cost, adequate computer speakers for those who aren't really hard core audiophiles, they can't be beat. (Also, they are somewhat nicer looking than the illustration, which has also been said.)
Junk July 24, 2010 William Krause (Great Neck, NY USA) Cheap, tinny sound and the right speaker broke after about 3 hours of use. Way overpriced at $10.
Awesome and Cheap July 24, 2010 Gigi B. (Atlanta,Ga) Purchased these speakers so I could have a little more volume when streaming Netflix from laptop to my TV. These plug right in the front of my laptop and the speakers are small enough to slip behind my TV. Great price, plug and play, and size was perfect considering the small space I have.
